Neighbors to Neighborhoods

At RSFIC we want to grow solidarity in Iowa City. We can relocalize our power by working together. Our Neighbors to Neighborhoods grant program is designed to help people who want to work with their neighbors, but need a little help getting started.

We give out grants of…

  • time (our staff can help you directly),
  • space (you can organize in our buildings),
  • and money (up to $500).

Working with us is relatively easy. Some grants have been approved and funded in under an hour, but we can also just help you think through what you want to do if you’re in the early stages of an idea. Our requirements are pretty simple:

  • You’ve got to want to work with at least one other neighbor. We aren’t focused on solo projects or teams spread across town.
  • You’ve got to want to do something in the physical geography of your neighborhood (like at a neighbors house, the local park, on the street, whatever). We’re focusing super-local so we get the side-benefits of knowing our neighbors.

That’s it! If that sounds like you, please contact our Senior Project Manager, Courtney, at [email protected]. We can help you with time, space, and/or up to $500 to get you started. Once we’ve gotten to know you, we can even talk about bigger grants.
